Anime Boston/"Sayounara"

Sat Apr 21, 2007, 3:28 PM
Okay. News Update

Today I woke up at 7 and went to Anime Boston with my friend, Debbie. We got to the convention center at 8:15AM, registered, and then went walking around the whole place because we got there so early that there was anything going on (except for showings of anime volumes and movies). When you go into Anime Boston, it isn't this big room with everything there and you just walk from stand to stand, each stand with different things(like one stand is a raffle, the other is a store). Everything is "categorized" into different rooms, and each room is on a different floor. Ick. Debbie and I walked around the whole place, up and down stairs over 50 times, and then later, we used the elevators XD. In each room there is a different thing to do, and each thing to do only lasts for x minutes, and you can get a schedule to see what is happening at 10AM or 12AM, etc. etc.

So, we walked around and went to a Prince of Tennis discussion/seminar.

Totally hilarious. I love the speaker who was talking to us. She made really funny jokes about how the regulars on the Seigaku tennis team SO did NOT look like 13-15 years old. Her proof? A picture of Tezuka, the tennis team's captain, performing a serve, who is supposed to be 14, but OBVIOUSLY looks like an adult. So very, very true. ^^

-She also had this slideshow, and on the first slide it said "What is The Prince of Tennis?". Her response: The Prince of Tennis is about a boy, Echizen Ryoma, trying to find himself. *laugh here* XD So darn funny. It wasn't even supposed to be a joke, but somehow, everyone in the room ended up laughing.

--Another little funny thing was about how she said that in the first few episodes, Ryoma's goal is to beat his dad in tennis. "I want to beat you dad!!!" After, she introduced to us to all the members of the team, and after each one she heard a cheer. And when she said "Kaoru Kaidoh" she heard a cheer so she asked, "Did I just hear a cheer for Kaidoh?!?" whahaha.

---We got to watch parts of The Prince of Tennis Musical, a little Prince of Tennis show, where all the seiyu (japanese voice actors) go and represent the character that they play in front of an audience, parts of The Prince of Tennis Live Movie, and The Prince of Tennis Musical video. hehehe. The speaker was saying something along the lines of "The tennis teenage boys are so famous and popular that they even start their own little band. Totally normal." hehe :D As for the movie, she was making comments about how Ryoma was going to try out for the team in the beginning and saying how Ryoma was acting all awesome and "ohh look at me! I can beat the crap out of you guys!" XD

----When they had the musical on, some people wanted to listen to the "kira kira" song. In the song, the tennis players all dance. And then in comes a . . . DUCK! XD YES. A DUCK. HAHAHA. So there was this big yellow duck dancing with all the actors. There was a move where the people had to plop on the floor, and the duck ended up needing to get help in order to get up from the floor. Silly duck.

------Afterward: We went to take a little poll about how many people watched/read the Prince of Tennis Beach Volleyball episode, and how many people enjoyed it. HAHAHAHA. You'll probably only understand why this is funny if you have watched the episode or read the chapter. Then, she told us that there was another tennis anime series that was made before The Prince of Tennis, Ace something something. It's about a girl and she joins the girl's tennis team to get a date or a love relationship with her senpai/coach. She said that it was not really the same storyline as the Prince of Tennis, but one guy in the audience said that it was. XD!!! HAHAHA.

Another question : Why did they change Ryoma's Fila hat to a R, for Ryoma, hat?
Answer : To sell their own hats. And THEY SELL. Proof? Tons of Ryoma cosplayers were wearing them. haha :P. IT WORKS.

--------Only one thing left to say that I forgot . . . FODOUMINE!

Then . . .

We ended up going to the artist's alley and then went to the dealer's room. The artist's alley was pretty cool... it took some time for some artists to come in and set up so we waited by seeing other stuff. In the dealer's room, you get to go and buy tons of cosplay items and fan merchandise. Ugh. One word to describe the prices: EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE.D:< (A/N: I just realized that I can't count, XD)

I wanted to buy a Prince of Tennis Seigaku Team Patch, like a thin fabric with the design already on it that you can sew onto a backpack or a piece of fabric. However, it was $10, and the patch wasn't even really large. RIP OFF. D:< We headed back to the artist alley and both Debbie and I bought buttons. XD We both have "I <3 DeathNote" buttons. XD

Later . . .
There was a Final Fantasy Philosophy discussion and we wanted to go, but we accidently went into the wrong room. Heh. We went into the Bandai Game room . . . Somehow, I knew that Final Fantasy had no relationship to Gundam Seed and Haruhi . . . XD. After finding the right room, there wasn't anymore space left for people to join in so we couldn't go D:<! We ended up going back to the dealer's room for one last look and went out of Boston via subway.

Oh, by the way, there were tons, TONS, of Naruto and Kingdom Hearts cosplayers. No joking. It probably wasn't even funny when I saw all of those Naruto's, Riku's and Sora's walking in the halls. @____@;; There were also these 4 guys dressed up as Final Fantasy GIRLS. EWWWWWw. MOST DISTURBING THING EVER. X____X;; I don't even want to describe it.

----Overview----

High Point : Prince of Tennis Seminar (Insert Heart Here)
Low Points : Everything else pretty much

Personal Opinion: Pretty boring since there weren't a lot of things that I was interested in. And if there was something that I was interested in, it was either too late for me to stay or I just missed it.
If you cosplay I guess it would be a little bit more fun, but there's really no point in cosplaying. Also, be prepared to get your picture taken if you do choose to cosplay. Back to the first topic, the level of "fun" also depends on what day you go on and how many days you plan to go into the convention. Each day offers new and different things. Debbie was talking about how, on the last day, they have an auction and one of the items that they auction is the Anime Boston Banner for the year. Would have been fun I suppose, but we went there on the second day out of the three days.
----In my opinion, if you are a "die hard" anime fan("otaku" I believe is the Japanese word for this) then you'll probably enjoy yourself. Otherwise, you'll get bored trying to find something to do and walk around the dealer's room for 1 hour, when there are so many people crowding stands. (A/N: That's what Debbie and I did for the remaining hours at Anime Boston)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On other news . . .
I feel like going on hiatus. Nothing is really happening with me right now, so I might as well just warn everyone not to expect stuff from me for a rather long time. That's it.

Sorry to everyone that I haven't commented to recently. I'll clear those things up. You guys don't need to feel sorry for me or be sad. In fact, don't feel sad because you'll be wasting your time and I really don't need to hear that kind of stuff. I'll very rarely update from time to time and I will still occasionally comment on stuff.

See you guys laterrr. :)

-----P.S.: Thank you to the people that read this whole journal. It's very appreciated.

Hey, dimples! It's me, Eurah!...

Uh...sorry for the lack of anything creative to say. Heh..heh..

So, I was bored and googled your name, and voila, I found out you were on the track team, and that you made an 'record breaking contribution to the world's largest ever collaborative arts project'.

So...if you haven't forgot a now hormonally crazy best friend, let's catch up!

Electronically of course.
